He corrupted Mograine's son, Renault , and made plans to set a trap for the Highlord. Renault led his father and High Inquisitor Fairbanks to Stratholme , where the legions of the Scourge awaited them. Renault fled and hid while Mograine and Fairbanks fended for themselves. Fairbanks eventually became trapped alive under a pile of corpses.
Mograine alone continued to smite thousands of the undead with ease, but was eventually wearied and dropped his blade in fatigue. Renault came out of hiding to exploit his father's vulnerable state. He took up Ashbringer and slew his father, which simultaneously corrupted the blade by using it for such a treacherous act.
Meanwhile, Kel'Thuzad resurrected Mograine as one of his death knights of Naxxramas and reclaimed his corrupted blade. Seeking to free his father, Darion Mograine led a mission into Naxxramas with a small party of Argent Dawn members. Upon finding him, Alexandros was unresponsive to his son's pleas and attempts to redeem him, forcing Darion to reluctantly kill him. Darion then came into possession of the Corrupted Ashbringer. He immediately heard his father's voice through Ashbringer, which led him to a portal and back to the Plaguelands.
The voice then led Darion to Renault at the Scarlet Monastery where he confronted his brother, who lashed out and attempted to kill him. Before Renault was able to deal the final blow, the Corrupted Ashbringer acted on its own, emitting an aura of green flames which took on the form of Alexandros, garbed in Dreadnaught armor. Renault begged for forgiveness and was quickly decapitated by his father, who then said he was forgiven. The spirit of Alexandros then retreated back into the blade.
At some point afterwards, Darion used the corrupted Ashbringer to kill himself in attempt to free his father. He was resurrected as a death knight and became Highlord of the Knights of the Ebon Blade. In the World of Warcraft , it is stated that Alexandros is one of the founders of the Scarlet Crusade.
The comic depicts the formation of the Scarlet Crusade occurring after Alexandros' death, in which case he would have never been a member. Ashbringer has been subject to intense speculation since the release of World of Warcraft. Rumors have been fueled by data-mined graphics and item statistics, as well as NPCs alluding to its existence. At the launch of the World of Warcraft, the only reference to Ashbringer by name was made by Caretaker Alen.
It was hinted at further with the introduction of Dire Maul. Information from these NPCs implies that Ashbringer was somehow lost and that Nat Pagle and Prince Tortheldrin know the location, and are even willing to tell the player; however, they have never shared their knowledge.
The mystery surrounding Ashbringer created great interest and discussion among players, who searched for a hidden or unlockable quest that would reward Ashbringer.
Rumors regarding an acquirable Ashbringer persisted until a European CM admitted that it is not in-game, quickly followed by Eyonix's confirmation:. View original post. The caster legendary item being referred to was [ Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian ] , which was added in patch 1.
Players encountered the resurrected Highlord Mograine in the original Naxxramas as a death knight of the four horsemen. He wielded [ Corrupted Ashbringer ] , which could be looted from the Horsemens' cache. It is not obtainable in the current Naxxramas. Upon wielding the blade, the player becomes friendly with the Scarlet Crusade although it does not appear in the reputations window and hated with the Argent Dawn.
A scripted event can be triggered upon entering the Cathedral in the Scarlet Monastery. Scarlet Commander Mograine welcomes the player as the crusaders bow before him or her. Unexpectedly, Highlord Mograine's spirit appears in full Dreadnaught , revives Fairbanks and smites and kills his son Renault, the Scarlet Commander for murdering him.
Fairbanks proceeds to tell the story of Renault's betrayal and that the Corrupted Ashbringer is beyond redeeming. Luckily, Mograine has another son who resides in Outland and has the ability to forge a new Ashbringer. Fairbanks does not give any quests. Events from World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade did not reveal Mograine's other son in Outland, however, and Ashbringer's fate would prove to be different in the next expansion. Players can find Darion Mograine within Acherus , with Corrupted Ashbringer and the title of Highlord of the Knights of the Ebon Blade during the Scarlet Enclave instance for the death knight starting area.
In the battle that ensued, Corrupted Ashbringer began to turn on Darion. When the death knights were forced to surrender, Tirion Fordring revealed that the Lich King knowingly sent Darion and his knights into a trap. Shortly thereafter, the Lich King himself appeared and affirmed Tirion's assertion.
Darion, disgusted at the betrayal and loss of his Knights, relinquished Ashbringer to Tirion, which became purified in his grasp, and Tirion struck a blow, forcing the Lich King to retreat. Upon returning it to Valgarde , a nearby cleric will unmask himself as Tirion Fordring and equip the artifact, which is revealed to be Ashbringer.
The dialogue explains that Tirion was convinced by his advisors to travel to Valgarde in disguise, while Ares the Oathbound was entrusted to transport the sword separately to Northrend.
This was a security precaution to protect the leader of the Crusade, should the Lich King's forces go after the sword's keeper in an attempt to kill Tirion. Fordring can later be seen wielding Ashbringer in Icecrown. Baron Rivendare has replaced Alexandros Mograine as one of the four horsemen of Naxxramas. During the final battle against the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel , while himself and brave heroes fight against the master of the Scourge , Tirion Fordring was frozen in a block of ice created by Arthas Menethil.
Asking the Light for one final blessing, which was answered, Tirion leapt towards Arthas and, with one mighty swing of the Ashbringer, shattered the dreaded Frostmourne , releasing the souls trapped within. This section concerns content exclusive to Legion. The Crusade cuts a swath through the Legion defenders at great loss, and Tirion is captured by Gul'dan, as the main assault force arrives. Gul'dan laughs as the power of the Legion overwhelms even the great Tirion Fordring, one of 'Azeroth's greatest champions,' and summons Krosus, a massive demon to finish him.
A blast of pure felfire from Krosus overwhelms the paladin, held aloft in a magical prison, and he falls defeated into the lake of fel. After the forces push past and are resoundingly defeated on the shore, Retribution paladins are instructed to retrieve the believed-alive Tirion from the Broken Shore. Upon landing at the Shore, Lord Maxwell Tyrosus and the champion find Jailer Zerus has taken him, and fight a wave of demons in pursuit. Sure, go ahead and call me wrong, this was pure speculation ofcourse and im not saying it WILL happen, but it has its chances, being low or high.
Comment by I was reading on some site that in a patch far after 3. Comment by brenthebli I may be wrong, but as I've been told, Ashbringer is the rarest drop in the game. Suposidly, it can be dropped by the High Lord in the Scarlet wing of Stratholme.
But its extremelly rare, and so nobody using the wowhead addon has yet gotten it, therefore the sourse being unknown in the databases. Don't take my word for it though, its just another theory. It may have even been released when the Gates of Ahn Quiraj were opened. Comment by lol, some noob somehow manages to get it and sells it for 26g to vendors. Comment by You never could get it.
Ashbringer has never been in the game as an item obtainable by players. You could only get the corrupted version. Comment by Alright, here's my honest speculation: It is said that evil cannot exist without it's polar opposite: good. I'm guessing that the only way we'll be able to kill Arthas is by somehow using the Ashbringer to shatter Frostmourne or cripple him Like in the DK ending quest, how Fordring gives him quite a strong blow.
So either Fordring is gunna join in on the fight or we'll have some kind of uber quest chain to get it. This is purely speculation however and could possibly all be bull! Comment by StreamlineProxy The Ashbringer Sarcasm prevails again!
Comment by mickeyworld92 Chance on hit: Blasts a target for Fire damage. Comment by lootman apparently 3. Comment by Imagine that there's a event probably in the future that the orginal owner of AB has died and his wish is to pass he sword down to people who wanted to kill LK,. The opposing factions will hold a debate to see who will use it to fight lich king. Here goes We do! Rommath: LK devastated our city and i have yet to settle this so i shall have it.
Varian Wrynn: We have a grudge with LK and whats more the original owner is a human Magni: Don't belittle us dwarves, and bear in mind LK killed Muradin. That sword is rightfully ours Tyrande: That sword is not safe within your grasp, we are immortals before and LK cant lay a finger on us. Velen: All of you are too young and inexperienced, let this sword be in the wise old man's hands and see him own with it. Because of this, all the races broke their alliance and continued on their own, independently, and blizz has another chance to release a new expansion - The fight for Ashbringer.
Soon whenever you go you will see Comment by i got to the middle of the movie then it stopped and gave me the loop sign to start it over i never got to see the end.
Comment by mixter and 50 people running around with other legendaries isnt strange? Comment by Well the difference is that this weapon is more special. I mean the others DO have purposes of thier own, besides it's not often when you see people running around with sulfaras or thunderfury.
But then again i didnt play durring the vanilla wow age Anyway, I belive that the ashbringer is a legend and just hope blizzard doesn't waste this one Comment by Treld drops off hogger in the new 3. Comment by minibeez1 I have a theory about the ashbringer. Feel free to rate this down or make bad comments because this is just a guess.
The ashbringer makes you freindly with the scarlet crusade so i thought that in wotlk you could be friendly with the scarlet onslaught A branched out version of the crusade that accepts people like death knights and shadow mages for those who didnt know So this may lead to you finding Mograines other son as the onslaught is in northend and most of his family was involved with the scarlet.
Comment by There is so much talk of how it can possibly be optained that I would be surprised if someone can make sense of all the optaincomments :. I don't think that it is possible to optain this weapon and if it will be in the future, nobody would want to do the very, very long chain quests for a weapon that maybe is legendary, but no longer an ultimate weapon.
Comment by You Can't Obtain This. The End. Comment by buzz magni bronzebeard is the real crafter of ashbringer infusing it with his fury and rage over his loss of muradin. Comment by Gnoktish it has been announced in Blizzcon that Frostmourne will not be obtainable, it is far too dangerous for anyone to weild and so they decided to replace it with Shadowmourne , Frostmourne will be destroyied by Tirion Fordring and will release all the spirits that Arthas has incased it within.
Younger Saurfang will be released! Highlord Saurfang will have one less target to cleave! Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian might be added in Cataclysm for casters, i don't know but, maybe Archeology maybe uncover the pieces for the staff!
Comment by As awesome as it would be to have such weapons for use in game, i have to agree with that other guys post. Seeing them all over the place would just ruin it.
If there were quests introduced where you could play as Tirion wielding the Ashbringer, like the quests you got to play as Arthas, that would be a good way to keep the lore going. Comment by Fairbanks was probably infected with undeath while in Stratholme, which is why you face him as an undead in SM Cathedral. Comment by Why is the lore so complicated? Who the hell created all of this!
AaAarRgH lol. Comment by i recently Linked this into my server chat and it seems the vendor price has changed to 14g 65s 31c and also increases attack power in cat, bear, dire bear and moonkin forms by Comment by So blizzard said they where waiting to make a casters legendary item, before they added the Ashbringer, they said they WILL, add this sword in, and now that the casters legendary mace has been added the one from Ulduar 25 shards and what not , well it cant be that far away, hold on it cant be that far away!
Comment by The Ashbringer moves around like this Wait just a sek o. What happened in between Renault and Darion I know Renault dident die becouse he is still alive in SM Cath, Playing dirty games with that priest in the back room. Got facts please state that its facts :P. Comment by wildowned Wish Blizzard got the Old 40 Naxxramas back, or atleast get the Ashbringer lore back, because you only get the weapon in corruption i mean and you just do the event in SM, talk to Fair Banks and the lore is " done " but seriously, it should be alot more of the Big lore Ashbringer has been, but the lore isnt rly big tho, because we had to go to TBC and find that BS dude, and when you did?
Comment by The name of this Blade in Demonic is:Zennrakkan or atleast it was when i pronunced ashbringer name while under the effect of Hex of tounges. Comment by Let's get one thing straight. It was taken out of the game when Naxx was moved to Northrend and Rivendare took Morgraine's place. And I know this is going to come up, so I'll go ahead and say it. Comment by exdeath This is currently linkable on my server.
Its funny because i had heard that its item id had been used for something else. Comment by This is the sword that shattered Frostmourne, according to WoWwiki. Comment by wjegan Frostmourne is destroyed in Icecrown.
Also, some people are confusing Alexandros, Renault, and Darion. Alexandros is the former leader of the four horsemen. Renault is killed in the Corrupted Ashbringer event.
Darion leads the Knights of the Ebon Blade. Comment by Oh man! I wish I had Ashbringer Comment by dreadblood maybe its to do with the order being called "order of the silver hand "? Comment by also known as Eyjafjallajokull.
Comment by i would faint if i saw a paladin holding this. Comment by why does big bosses like weak weapons just like arthas likes frostmourne but seriously i dont want this weapon comin. Comment by Hannes37 An Ashbringer? No normal child could have access to such a powerful sword, theres only one logical explanation on how he could have gotten it and kill his father Comment by Tirion Fordring is now Ashbringer.
Comment by belterith Whatever happened to this beautiful weapon im sure it used to have an insane amount of ap against undead and other stats but cannot remember them for the life of me. We are reminded of ashbringer each week as for the ones still farming LK in the hands of Highlord Tirion Fordring.
Comment by i dont know why they remove it! Comment by Odd that the corrupted version is stronger than the purified version. That means that Darion should have been able to sucessfully clobbered the Lich King instead of getting beat up.
Tirion has successfully made a weapon weaker. Proof that Paladins are lame. Comment by The Ashbringer, a weapon sought by many, yet had by almost non. It's showing up on the WoW Armory, its links are working in-game, and we even have one with extra effects, Ashbringer Extra Effects.
Comment by HelloKitty This is what i personally think. There are already enough legendary weapons in WotLK, we have the healer mace and soon will have Shadowmourne. In BC only two were released the bow from Sunwell plateau and the set of warglaives which count as one as its pointless having one without the other. I seriously doubt that the ashbringer will come back at all, because blizzard likes to revamp instances and the occasional weapon like The Hungering Cold, but never the seriously legendary weapons like Ashbringer, Atiesh, Warglaives or Thori'Dal.
Ashbringer has had its time and those who still wield one will be continually revered among their fellow WoW players. I understand they are just theories and i have one of my own which i think Blizzard could have done with Shadowmourne rather than pull a new weapon out of nowhere.
I personally think because as Blizzard has said they didn't want Frostmourne to take peoples souls, it should have been cleansed like Ashbringer and renamed a new legendary name which lore would say was its original name before it was corrupted so. As far as I know, Shadowmourne wasn't even thought of until around now when Blizzard wanted to add a new weapon and i think my theory would make a lot more sense lore-wise.
Thanks and feel free to comment. Or at least a cousin. The resemblance is uncanny. Comment by Shamadamun I was thinking about the potential of this weapon if it was available to players at 85, and how its upgraded version would look like. After doing a little bit of calculator math without REALLY delving deep into it, I came to the conclusion that the proc damage would be somewhere between - Makes me want this weapon in cata :. Comment by shayneg Legendary for casters?
New legendary staff in cata :o Hopefully we get ashbringer then :]. Comment by What you say is correct WoW has way too many Legendary wepons but ashbringer was one of the first and most lore filled way more badass then any other ones I'd choose it over any gay LK or Cat wepon anytime. Comment by belterith Lol all this theory crafting on an item that only true raiders woud have been able to get their hands on the weapon dosent even have its original stats on it anymore as with the only legendary neck peice in game you either partacipated or didnt thats how blizz roll.
Comment by If you want to know more so read the Ashbringer comic. It tells the story of Ashbringer how it is forged as the death of Alexandros and Darion mograin and a lot lot more. Comment by mummer Was thi ever availiable to players? Comment by Wish they would add this back as a legendary, or at least the corrupted version :. I do not understand why you must not interfere with such good weapons and replacing them with such crap, like the legendary weapons of the Cataclysm.
Comment by Kannt And from that crystal they forged a sword Comment by Will this Weapon ever be Relesed to online players. Comment by mindalover13 So How did Tirion get it?
Comment by lethlaren If you are a paladin, you can hold this legendary weapon for 18 seconds. Tirion: You don't say! Comment by Strath As of 5. Comment by Pally's got Holy Avenger, pity it doen't last long T. Comment by i would disenchant it. Comment by Noxheart I hope that someday. Even if its the last day of wow. Someone on eu And someone on us Will have to meet.
And the other one Will get Frostmourne. Comment by fumseren it would be awesome if it could come up on the black market :3 think about it Comment by I wish they didnt take the sword out of the game, they should bring it back to where you can still get it but have it out only for like a month or so, then they can take it back out..
Comment by I have seen a physical in-game manifestation of a GM twice in the history of me playing this game. The first time was in AQ20 at release the General and his waves were buggin out on my guild so we asked a GM for help. The GM refused to believe the bug out and I asked him to come and watch. He showed up as a wisp and watched from a far.
The second time was in Org, I hadn't hit 60 yet and PvP hadn't even been released yet. I saw Tauren running around the AH jumping, he had on full tier 1 and was carrying this weapon. I have seen this weapon only then in-game, and never since. I also remember seeing the text on the item was red not yellow as it currently is. Never forget that.
I used to love WoW for the mystery aspect of it. Now I just read and see guides. Comment by Hearthstone: Ashbringer. Comment by ceasure Oh god dmg was a but load in vanilla. If this would have made it live it would have kicked serious ass. Comment by Baracuda It has an updated high definition model in the Wrath of the Lich King final cinematic.
Comment by It's the Ashbringing It's the HashSlinging Slasher! It's just like Frostmourne. Waved in our faces. By Wrath it was a mystical myth! Comment by justinabad how do i win this contest?
Comment by Is it still available? Comment by Nessumaster Okey now I'm just making this up but the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion makes me think about some possibilities about this sword. We all know that The Dark Crystal found by Alexandros Mograine from a body of a dead orc lieutenant originated from Draenor, the homeworld of orcs. It may be a piece of a dead Naaru that can regenerate over time see this.
High Inquisitor Fairbanks implies that Alexandros has a son who could forge a new Ashbringer and he resides in Outland description of this can be found here. Now this part is just pure speculation! We know that we are going to old Draenor which is the planet the Dark Crystal originated from and the homeworld of orcs. As of what we know, this is the time before orc invasion of Azeroth so they can't be found in Blackrock Mountain yet in the timeline of next expansion. This quest COULD be a new legendary questline in WoD and maybe it would be the questline for Paladins If I remember correctly, I read about the new legendary questline being slightly different for every class, please correct me if I am completely wrong.
Anyway, info about legendary questline can be found here In my opinion in the current and the original timeline we have been playing for years now, obtaining Ashbringer would ruin the story. In WoD we are going to a completely different timeline where Garrosh tries to bring back Iron Horde to current and original timeline so why couldn't we bring back some artifacts too? Only thing which might ruin our chances obtaining new weapon of legendary caliber would be the excistence of Alexandros' son in Draenor of that time.
Could've he been born by that time already? Could he be in Draenor at that time? I can only hope that Blizzard decides that these events can actually happen.
Will we get our hands on something that awesome? Only time will tell! Sigh, A warrior can dream. Edit: I'd probably be destroyed however. Comment by david I think. It will be available in WoD. Because of if you have corrupted Ashbringer.
In the scarlet monastery the guy will say that mograines son in outland can cleanse the blade. Comment by Jorvalt Curious that this doesn't show up when you search it anymore Comment by TheAssbringer I'd love to see this weapon become a reality for players in future expansions.
As he is dying you carry out quests for him a basic example could be - killing those who were responsible for his injury - this could be linked to a Raid like Shadowmourne and ICC and at the end of the quest chain, Ashbringer could be a reward. And I saw someone claiming that the center piece crystal in it was from a dead Naaru. Though as a guy here said, the shard is said to have its origins from DRAENOR, and well, in just some weeks we are to travel back approximately 35 years back in time, to Draenor, and maybe not until now Blizzard may actually be planning to bring this weapon into the game for players to obtain?
Maybe the NPC, who is currently holding it, will die in WoD or there will be some kind of legendary quest or whatever for players to obtain it? Or a secret quest in Draenor to obtain it? Maybe now players can forge it, I don't know but it feels like there is a possible chance here, unless Blizzard has totally forgotten or don't want to make this weapon available for players. What do you think? I will definately keep my eyes open for anything that might seem like a clue about the Ashbringer in WoD.
Comment by Keleindor To anyone who said this would never be used by players, suck it! Comment by scottishvoodoo Guess it's time to update that "This item is not available to players. Comment by bazzyl It's back baby! All screenshots and videos for Gamescom regarding Ashbringer.
Comment by knipzy Ashbringer will be available to players in the new expansion Legion as a artifact quality.
Comment by Romire Every single paladin will now be able to weild one of these in Legion! Rise my paladins, and take forth! Comment by Netherspark The Ashbringer will finally be obtainable for players in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Legion expansion, as the artifact weapon for Retribution Paladins.
This famous sword will continue its journey in the hands of a new champion, having passed from Alexandros Mograine, to his son Darion, then to Tirion Fordring, and now to you. In the player's hands, you will have several customization options available for Ashbringer, including several colour variations, an empowered 'master' version, a flaming ashbringer made entirely of fire, a shattered ashbringer held together by strands of lightning, and finally a corrupted, evil-looking version.
Comment by 0Aloreth Now becoming usable by ret paladins as their Artifact weapon in Legion. Comment by Wuatdah The sash-ringing.. Please review our Screenshot Guidelines before submitting! Ashbringer's power was later drained to neutralize Azeroth 's wound inflicted by Sargeras. The sword's story has been slowly revealed since World of Warcraft 's inception.
While Ashbringer had a pronounced role in Wrath of the Lich King , players were unable to wield it until the release of Legion. The Ashbringer is featured in a titular four-part comic miniseries. During the siege of Blackrock Spire in the Second War , Highlord Alexandros Mograine found a mysterious, dark crystal on the body of a dead orc warlock from Draenor. The crystal was described as a "living embodiment of shadow". Mograine kept the crystal a secret for years until just before the Scourge invasion of Lordaeron.
He revealed it to the other leaders of the Silver Hand , suggesting that they try to find the crystal's antithesis — a manifestation of the Holy Light itself — that could be used against the impending undead invasion. Mograine's peers were appalled at the sight of the dark crystal and tried to destroy it with holy spells. Unexpectedly, the crystal absorbed the spells and became the crystal of pure light that Mograine mentioned moments before.
The group agreed to forge a weapon from the crystal that would smite the undead with such power that only a cloud of ash would remain in its wake. Magni hoped the sword would be used to avenge his brother, Muradin , whom he believed had been killed by the Scourge. Highlord Mograine seen in Naxxramas during Classic. After Arthas ' betrayal, the remaining leaders of the Silver Hand banded together to fight the undead of the Plaguelands. The Ashbringer became the most lethal weapon in their arsenal — and it quickly garnered the attention of Kel'Thuzad.
Balnazzar in the newly-possessed body of Grand Crusader Saidan Dathrohan sought to manipulate the remnants of the Silver Hand to advance his goals for the Burning Legion. After Mograine stated his intentions to attack the Undercity , Balnazzar put plans into motion to eliminate Alexandros ostensibly to protect his brother, Varimathras , who was in the Undercity secretly manipulating Sylvanas Windrunner and her Forsaken.
Balnazzar made a pact with Kel'Thuzad to eliminate Alexandros and end his threat to both of them. Balnazzar corrupted one of Alexandros' sons, Renault , and set a trap for the Highlord. Renault led his father and High Inquisitor Fairbanks to Stratholme , where legions of the Scourge awaited them.
Renault hid while Alexandros and Fairbanks fended for themselves. Fairbanks eventually became trapped alive under a pile of corpses. Alexandros alone continued to smite thousands of the undead, but eventually became weary and dropped Ashbringer. Renault came out of hiding and slew his father with the sword, which corrupted the blade. Later, Kel'Thuzad resurrected Alexandros as one of his death knights of Naxxramas and reclaimed his corrupted blade.
Balnazzar gained complete authority over the remnants of the Silver Hand that reformed as the Scarlet Crusade , and Renault became Commander of the Scarlet Monastery. Seeking to free his father, Alexandros' other son Darion led a mission into Naxxramas with a small party of Argent Dawn members. Upon finding him, Alexandros was unresponsive to his son's pleas and attempts to redeem him, forcing Darion to reluctantly kill him. Darion took the corrupted Ashbringer, with his father's spirit bound to it.
Darion confronted his brother, who lashed out and attempted to kill him. Before Renault was able to deal the final blow, Alexandros' spirit emerged from Ashbringer and decapitated him, saving Darion. The spirit of Alexandros then retreated back into the blade. Some time later, during a Scourge assault on Light's Hope Chapel , Darion impaled himself with the corrupted Ashbringer in another attempt to free his father.
While successful, Darion was resurrected as a death knight and became Highlord of the Death knights of Acherus. The comic later depicted the formation of the Scarlet Crusade occurring after Alexandros's death, in which case he would have never been a member. Ashbringer was the subject of intense rumors and speculation during the early years of World of Warcraft.
It was one of the first legendary-quality items to be datamined from the games' files, and Caretaker Alen also mentioned Ashbringer by name in-game. This created speculation among players that there was a secret quest to obtain Ashbringer. Blizzard did not comment on whether it could be obtained or not.
Information from these sources suggested that Asbhringer was somehow lost, and that Nat Pagle and Prince Tortheldrin knew the location; however, neither shared their knowledge.
